Heavy rains cause flooding in Mexico. (X)
Mexico Floods: Floods caused by continuous heavy rainfall from October 6th to 9th in Mexico have caused massive devastation. Streets in Poza Rica and other cities were flooded with water up to 12 feet deep. The flooding has caused widespread panic in several cities. At least 41 people have died so far, with many more missing.
In Poza Rica, the Cajon River overflowed and flooded the city. The strong current swept away several vehicles and destroyed several buildings. The water level receded on Saturday, but the devastation remains. Several cars are hanging from trees, and the carcass of a horse was found inside a pickup truck.
According to the Mexican National Coordination of Civil Protection, 16 people were killed in Hidalgo, and more than 150 areas were cut off. Nine deaths were recorded in Puebla, and more than 16,000 homes were reduced to rubble. In the state of Veracruz, 15 people were killed, and 42 areas were cut off due to landslides. Rescue teams are still searching for missing people.
Relief efforts have resumed in Poza Rica and surrounding areas after water levels receded, but the devastation in the affected areas is still evident.
